100 Words – A Room of My Own
2012
First a little admin note – if you have a Google blog (blogger) and you don’t have “anonymous” or “Name/URL” permissions for commenting, I can’t leave a comment on your blog. Just know that I AM reading all your posts even if it’s sometimes a week later.
Second, a little love note. I’m so thrilled to see so many familiar faces after my hiatus, and really loving meeting all the newcomers as well.
As I mentioned, we had our housewarming last weekend and I was finally able to at least unpack the writing room. It is still sorely in need of lots of personal touches and decor, but it’s clean and it’s mine (for however long it’s mine) and I love it.
If you need me you know where I’ll be. In the meantime, of course this week’s word must come from Virgina Woolf’s, “A Room of One’s Own”, from this paragraph:
So that when I ask you to earn money and have a room of your own, I am asking you to live in the presence of reality, an invigorating life, it would appear, whether one can impart it or not.

I’m hoping to find/make the time this week. I do love your challenges. (And your house.)
Oh I hope you do lady. I love reading your entries.
LOVE your room . . . the yellow and white – so clean and sunny.
And the stacks of journals

Clean and sunny is exactly how it feels Barb. The yellow isn’t quite so intense as in these photos – the filter I used made it more so. Now I just need to train the cat to lay in the window there and it will be heaven.
Love that yellow gingham wallpaper! So sunny and subtle at the same time. Beautiful pix of what must be a beautiful house!

Thanks FKC. I would never think to purposefully put up a yellow gingham wallpaper, but once I saw it in this room I liked it. Nevertheless I may very well take it down at some point and paint the walls instead. We’ll see.
I’m not normally a fan of yellow, but I’m really digging that wall paper. (And that bureau is gorgeous.)

Yellow isn’t at the top of my list either, but yeah, it somehow works in this room. But then, yellow is said to be the color of insanity so if I start to feel myself unraveling… well, let’s just say I wouldn’t be averse to tearing it down and painting the room white or some other more subdued color.
I love the yellow, it’s ‘invigorating.’
I couldn’t help it. I just think it’s great to have a dedicated room for writing. Virginia Woolf would be proud.

Ha! Now I have to set aside time too. It’s one thing to have the room, quite another to be disciplined enough to carve out the time.
Do you still write in journals?…love the journals!
I do still write in journals. And on napkins and slips of paper and receipts and printer paper. Some day I’ll get it all in digital form but I guess I still like a pen and paper for some things.
If the cat is ever trained, you should submit the picture to some national magazine, because it would make an already perfect room simply ideal.

I don’t know that it’s magazine worthy but someday maybe it will be.
Actually, I would really want to have a small library inside my room if I had a big one.. Anyway, I just love your post here..

I do have a small library in there and another bookshelf almost ready to go in (paint drying). But really, our whole house is a library. Mr. High-Pants (petname for my partner) was a literature scholar and I’ve always been bookish. So between the two of us we have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of books.
