Vermont, a Manure Truck, and 100 Words
2012
Whew. I’m just back from Vermont to visit my mother and help her with Mother’s Day in the flower shop. I drove up with my sister and within hours of arriving at my mother’s a manure truck rumbled down the street. For some reason my sister thought this was hilarious. She jabbed at me and pointed her chin in the direction of the approaching manure truck. I think she thinks I’m much more cosmopolitan than I am. Or more sensitive. Or more judgy.
One of those. Or all of those.
The 80′s CD we lip-synced and air-guitared to on the drive home was 10 times more impressive than a truck pulling a tank full of sh*t.
I think I just aged myself. Let me distract you with a word prompt. Yes, look at the shiny!
FRAGILE
(This prompt is off the giant box of fragile glassware that’s sitting next to me. Yes, that’s right – still unpacking.)

My husband’s parents are originally from Vermont, and we’re headed that way for a family reunion this summer! Look out lake monster, the Merrimans are on the way.

Oh yes, Champ! Almost forgot about him.
This is a dumb noob question, but I’m getting the sense that the challenge is to write a story using the sense of the word but to not actually include the word? Or is that just one approach?

You can do it either way. Most people use the actual word, but plenty of players have used just the sense of the word. Whatever feels right to you.
I love that the shiny is back!! I would also have loved to rock along with your 80′s air band

Maybe some day I’ll throw a Velvet Verbosity 80′s party.
Hi, VV. It has been a long time since I’ve played. Now that I’ve discovered that you’re back, I decided to jump in with a 100-word poem.
