Irene
2011
The news said a storm was coming. One like we hadn’t seen in a decade. People in the South were grumbling, “We get these storms all the damn time and nobody cares”. There’s no explaining why some things make the news and other things don’t. Maybe the reasons are just too ugly. Only thing I know is Irene got real angry right over Vermont. Brooks all at once turned into angry wide rushing rivers running straight through the middle of towns, washing away roads and homes and lives. The news is over – meanwhile mold grows up on the rubble.

Irene was much more insidious that anyone gave Her credit for. Living in Florida you get accustom to prepping for storms, I’m afraid east coaster were ill-prepared for what a hurricane can really do.

I lived in Florida for all of two years, in Venice, which seemed to be in a little pocket of protection from hurricanes. I never experienced one down there. This is the closest I ever came to one.

amazing picture. I was glued to storm coverage and I was no where near it (Georgia).
Mother Nature can be a mean ole broad.

I wonder why we humans keep on building stuff in seismic and hurricane zones..hmmm
Anyway we cant call it a “natural disaster” imho. It just a storm. It a disaster for us ONLY since we build things that mother nature can destroy. I think we are a bit hypocrites with the “natural disasters” expression..
