100 Words – Forgive Thyself
2010
This week is shaping up to be a doozy! Every last nook and cranny of my schedule is full to bursting. It’s mostly good stuff, so I’m not complaining. But when family and work priorities build up, my hobby blog gets pushed lower on the list. I’ve got some ideas I’m planning to roll out in December that should make me enough money from this site to push it higher up on the priorities.
But we’re not there yet, so this post is rushed rushed rushed.
My pick this week is from Tara over at If Mom Says Ok. As I posted over there, “powerful, painful, chilling, heartbreaking”.
When Does Forgiveness Begin
The triggers are random – the scent of chimney smoke, the crackle of a fire, a certain look on his face. Feelings of guilt and shame are still raw, hiding below the surface. Tears well in her eyes as she takes great gulps of air, willing panic-filled heartbeats to calm.
Unbidden, tortured memories flood back of a frantic race toward help as fervent prayers spilled from her lips, her infant son cradled against an icy cloth on her shoulder. A toddler, following behind, confused why her mother is so afraid.
It has been 17 years, when does the forgiveness begin?
New prompt is from Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights just because.
HARSH
Here’s the paragraph that’s from:
“How can you say I am harsh, you naughty fondling?” cried the mistress, amazed at the unreasonable assertion. “You are surely losing your reason. When have I been harsh, tell me?”

I must be a bad participant. I thought I read everyone’s but I somehow missed this one! Shame!
Love love love the word harsh. One of my favorties (does everyone have favorite words, or is it just me?)
This one will be interesting.

I came across my journal when I was nine years old, and there I had a list of favorite words. It must be a particular characteristic of us whom V.V. calls “word nerds”.
Oooh, my favorite entry for last week! I’m so glad it got posted.

Thank you so much for the pick.
I’ll be very interested to read everyone’s ‘harsh’-ness this week.
(One of my favorite words is ‘curmudgeon.’)
