100 Words – Hushing Lullabies
It has been a long time since I’ve moved, and I had forgotten just how much work it is! Particularly since I’m only moving one town over and decided to be frugal and put in my own sweat labor. But I will have a Rumford fireplace to sit by this winter while I write and that image carries me through.
My pick of the week is Mr. Gabriel Gadfly, a poet, who wrote this heart-wrenching piece.
Life Support
A heart cannot pull away from its veins.
At the corridor’s end, one step shy of snapping
the arteries that bind me to you, I turn and flee
to your bedside, my fearful heart beating its fists
on the white doors of your room, as if it might find
them locked and barred, but they open, they
still accept me, you still sleep, dreaming to the
hushing lullabies of your respirator. Your hand is
warm and I imagine your fingers curl, just a little,
around mine. I’ll stay here until you wake up.
I’ll stay here until you wake up.
I would highly recommend you spend some time on his site browsing his other poetry.
The prompt this week is from “The Children’s Book” by my favorite author, A.S. Byatt.

Finally something not dark or depressing. Here’s my entry for this week…

Great choice, VV. I loved this too. Congratulations, Gabriel. Well deserved.

Thank you.
Forgot the Linky Tool, but it’s up now.
Sarah, funny, I was reading your post and didn’t read the title, but my first thought when I got to the end was “Circle of Life”.
Thanks! I’m glad it conveyed it without the title! *LOL*

Congrats! Gabriel. This was just a beautiful piece. Poetic genius, you are.
Haha. “Poetic genius”? I wouldn’t go that far, but thank you.
So very poignant, Gabriel. It made my heart ache.
Thank for almost making me cry, jerk.
Seriously, great job. I really enjoyed that, Gabriel.

I left a comment on his site – but it is a touching piece, certainly. However – if you want to make that REALLY hard to read, try reading it while listening to “Hey, That’s No Way To Say Goodbye”, by Judy Collins in her ‘Wildflowers’ album.

You left a comment on my site? That’s odd. I didn’t get any new comment notifications…and anyway, comments are disabled in the poetry section of my site.
Could you tell me in more detail where you left the comment? I recently redesigned the site, and I might have messed something up if comments aren’t going through properly.
VV, I’m wondering if my “linky” entry worked. (I’ve seen no visits from you and from only one — the first comment –from list for “fingers.”) I know that we’re on to a new word, but if I’m having a problem linking, I’d like to correct it.

Patti, your link worked fine, and I did visit today before you posted this comment so I’m not sure why it didn’t register. I didn’t comment, but I didn’t get a chance to comment on anyone’s entries that came in later in the week. I’m hoping to make the rounds on comments after tomorrow, the final day of wrapping up this move — the move from hell, honestly!
As for others not commenting, I noticed that later entries toward the end of the week get less comment traffic.
But yes, the link worked, and I did read it.
Thanks, VV. I’ve had a little trouble with links, and just wanted to be sure.
