Miksang is a Tibetan word that translates as ‘Good Eye’, and is based on the Shambhala and Dharma Art teachings of the late meditation master, artist, and scholar Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche.
Spontaneous road trip today. House empty, heart longing, led me onto the road to see what I could see. Found myself in a small town in the mountains, the streets all rolled up and the shops all closed. Lanky boys rode by on their low-slung bicycles, warily eyeing me as they sipped soft-drinks through straws.
I chased afternoon shadows and light, peered into shop windows, lazily made my way down side streets, letting the colors and heat wash over me.

Some of my best days were spent on spontaneous road trips. They are good for my soul.

I’m well-known for spontaneous road trips. Sometimes going out to get milk took the whole day.
I like to go on little exploration trips out in the countryside – looking for old barns, mostly, with camera in hand. These days it’s likely a digital camera, but I feel myself getting the urge to get my Zorki 4′s out to play – Leica lookalike/workalike cameras made in Russia – and shoot some film. Of course, I’ll have CD’s made along with prints – so I can play with the negatives.

Lceel, yes sometimes I miss my old Pentax K1000. It was my familiar buddy for many many years, and my hands had become quite accustomed to its particular heft. I am saving for a digital SLR…someday, someday. Right now I’m operating with a digital point and shoot, the Canon Powershot, which is one of the best as far as point and shoots go. Still, I miss having switchable lenses, better DoF, etc.
*Side note, I am still mystified by why sometimes my photo shows and other times does not.
Random rambles are the best kind. I once found a town we decided to move into when out on such a ramble. I went in search of a leaf-strewn old cemetery in an autumn dawn, camera at the ready, and I found a new home town.
I’m wondering about your small mountain town, empty and forlorn. In the summer. If they aren’t “open” in the summer, that’s a really sad state for a town, though a peaceful place to wander, I’m sure. Since we are virtual neighbors, it must be fairly close by.

Patti, that happened to me once, only I wasn’t wandering with a camera, we were just taking a drive. We drove through the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and I was suddenly overwhelmed with the idea that we needed to live there. So we did, and everything good and serendipitous in my life happened as a result of that one decision.
